A few foreign covers and a German translation giveaway!
These have popped up on the publishers’ Facebook pages in the past couple of days. Clicking on them will take you to the publisher’s site, and you can view all of the available foreign editions on the International page (except for Italy’s, because I haven’t added that yet).
There are no words for how much I heart this one.
And! I recently received my translated copies of The Iron Duke, but I don’t need more than one! So I’m giving five copies of them away to readers here.
I do have one stipulation, though, and I’m sorry for it — these need to go to someone who reads German. I know! This totally sucks of me, because I know it’s kind of cool to have foreign editions, in the same way it’s awesome to have ARCs … but I really want these to be read (and hopefully enjoyed) for the story inside rather than just the packaging.
So if you read German or know someone who does and might enjoy this as a gift, please feel free to comment below and enter! Contest ends Monday, December 12th at Midnight, Pacific time, and I will do my best to send them to you in time for the holidays. Good luck!
The small print: Comment by 11:59:59 PM Pacific time on 12/12/2011 for your chance to win. Five winners will be selected randomly using random.org, and their name posted on this blog 12/13/2011. Winners must provide Meljean with their mailing address by December 25, 2011 or the prize will be forfeit. Only one entry per ISP address. The contest is open to international readers. No purchase necessary to enter. Odds of winning depend on number of entries received. Void where prohibited.

I speak German.
I also love both German covers above, especially the one with Yasmeen. I think it’s kind of funny how the subtitle is “Flaming Heart”, I’m picturing the heart giving off billows of steam as it is submerged in the iron sea….

Okay why does Mina in the UK edition look a bit Pakistani? I do like the UK cover a lot more than the US cover though. And I really really like the German covers which is usually not the case.
Living in Germany, I have all books of yours in English (thanks again for the Angels of Darkness bonanza) – because I teach English and prefer the original – but I’ll be sending this link to a friend of mine who might enjoy reading them in German (although she also is very good in English, so maybe she has them already, heh).
Anyway, don’t enter me.
Dec 08, 2011 @ 07:10:55

I am German and I would love to read this book! Saw it in some shops, but haven’t bought it yet. I love steampunk and read Steamed by Katie MacAlister so far. It was great. This would be my second steampunk book. So I would be overwhelmed, if I would get it =)
Dec 08, 2011 @ 23:05:12
Here via Estara @26.
I’m German, too. I already read The Iron Duke in English and enjoyed it very much. Heart of Steel is on my Christmas list. I’d still love to win the German edition to pass it on to my Mom. She only reads in German and I’m sure she would love it. Besides, she’s curious what this Steampunk thing is all about.
The German covers are lovely, by the way, and I prefer the UK cover of The Iron Duke to the US cover.
Dec 09, 2011 @ 16:47:18

Ich lese deutsch! Ich studiere deutsch! Ich liebe diesen deutsch kopies.
Dec 10, 2011 @ 14:16:19
Hey,
I’m from Germany, too, so reading the book would be no problem.
And I think it would be pretty interesting to see how good the translation is – the reason I try to read books in their original language is that a lot of novels lose a lot in translation, especially if not published by the big (German) publishing houses.
Dec 11, 2011 @ 15:00:11
That’s true Tine, there are a lot of really awful translations!
Dec 11, 2011 @ 15:15:28
i’m from austria, so I speak german really well
and i loved the book in english, so it would be great to read it in german!
greetings,

Hello from Germany!
I read about this on Nalini’s FBpage. Usually, I prefer to read books in the language they were originally written in. But since I’m German, I’d love to give your books a try in German.
Thanks!
