So these are two very preliminary versions of bookmarks that I might send to a printer — the size is 2×6 inches, and would go to booksellers. Which one do you like better? And, do you have any suggestions? Should I crop the photo more? Is the one with the entire cover better, do you think, for marketing purposes (the crossed-O in demon is going to be a regular thing, so should I use it? I’m just having a hard time matching the other font to it (the O, D, and A are all Avalon Quest, but I’m not sure of the others, though I’ve looked all over the place.) The lavender is because the book cover is lavender, and the font is kind of frilly because bookmarks always strike me as frilly. But is it too much?
Hmm, and maybe I should ask my editor if I can get the original artwork without the text, since that is difficult to work around. Duh, and they could tell me the font used, too.
The back of the bookmarks will be black and white, and contain all pertinent release info such as price, ISBN, a very brief blurb, my website, and that DEMON MOON is coming up in June. Oh, and the quote from Marjorie Liu that says the book is brilliant

Numero uno!
I agree with Larry. Numero Uno!
Having the whole cover there means too many words crowding the bookmark.
I like the first one for simplicity and the second one just because of the crossed o. But I do like the first one.
I think you should get the original artwork/font from your publisher. That way you’ll best be able to match the cover and then the bookmark will serve as a memory “prompt” for the book. I.e., if the bookmark is on the counter and a reader sees it, then they’ll be able to go to the bookshelf and recognize it.
Plus, when the reader has it at home, she doesn’t have to wonder what book it matches.
Alot bookmarks that I have seen have the information on the book – a blurb about what this is about and what is coming next. What other books you are selling.
Totally my opinion.
I like the 2nd, it has more color.
I think visually the first one is the best. Now I won’t have to use toilet paper as a book mark.
I was going to say number one at first glance but I think the second one is better because the tezt and colours flows better. And its definitely more eyecatching I think.

Not keen on either because of the colour and text. Text doesn’t make me memorise info well, and the background colour makes white text a little tough to read.
If I had to choose I’d go with second one because it has the book cover, which is easier to memorise for future bookshop browsing.
P.S. the second one – if you remove the bottom text and lower the book cover, it’d definitely get my vote.
I like the second one because I was havng trouble reading all the blurb text at the top.
I actually didn’t notice that the entire book cover was on the second until I read comments. But here’s the thing, the blurb on the cover “Who’ll be the first to succumb?” interferes with the blurb you’ve got going for the bookmark itself.
Me? I’d end up going with number one, but asking that the Demon Moon font be the one from the bookcover. Then you’ve got a good approximation of the bookcover, without having to deal with extra phrase.
At least, that’s what I think I’d do. I totally overthnk decisions like this.
Hmm — alright, will rethink the text (and maybe the colors, because the lavender doesn’t translate well from top to bottom) and try to make the title font more like the actual title font.
Thanks for the input, all :slashyhug: — I will likely have another version up soon.
Go with the first one!
Potatoes from old Home…oh so long ago. Remember, it’s meat you age, for potatoes ferment and distil.
#1 but a deeper purple at the top that that lightens downward to merge with the fog aboe the characters…no distinctive line.
