You are probably glad I didn’t take a picture of this.

So, as part of my purging, I decided to have tomato soup today (but without a grilled cheese sandwich, *sob*).

Except, the tomato soup was made when I realized: no crackers.

It’s not just because I am one — I simply can’t eat tomato soup without crackers. Saltines, preferably. So that started me on a search through my cupboards, searching for anything — croutons (out), Ritz crackers (out), Keebler’s club crackers (out), until I finally spied something that might work. I debated for a while, because it seemed so trashy wrong. But in the end, I did it.

Dear Reader, I used Cheez-Its.

And it’s not half-bad, although I’d prefer a Saltine.

In other news, Jane at DearAuthor.com is my hero. She’s everything I wish I could be. And I could fly higher than an eagle … if I could ever respond as well as she does. See: her latest opinion piece.

Cheeze Its? In tomato soup? I guess that’s better than say . . . oreos. :slashyhug:

I was desperate!!

…I might have used oreos, too.

Cheeze-Its? yuck–you need to go food shopping.

Damn, Here I was thinking that Meljean had been fairly creative in employing cheez-its. By reading the comments I see that I am wrong.

I think.

Why NOT cheez-its in tomato soup? My babysitter used to do that. Goldfish crackers in tomato soup too.

(When I was nine I ate tomato soup made by my babysitter and was horrified not to find the “tomato-ey bits” which my mother’s soup always had. She’d put the bowl in front of me and encourage me to eat the “bits” first. Found out at nine with the babysitter that the “tomatoey bits” were the lumps in the soup left when you didn’t stir properly. Fell madly in love with that babysitter and wanted her to spirit me away to a landof fairies and dolphins. Never happened.)

Tara — went last night, and my fridge is full of goodies again.

Suisan — lol! I’ve had those tomatoey bits more than once. I used to love love love the lumps in Cream of Wheat, and it took me a long time to realize that to make them, I needed to add all of the stuff really fast and then not stir really well.

mmm, Cream of Wheat. I didn’t buy any of that last night, but I should put it on my next list.

My gramma used to make tomato soup – with WATER!!! Blech, blech, blech. And I forget what kind they were but she used these little tiny cracker things. They were horrible. Tomoto soup (the only tomato based food I eat) must be Campbells, must be made with milk, preferrably 2% (even though I usually buy 1%) and have normal everyday crackers, but only a few at a time – otherwise they get too soggy.

Kristie — I didn’t even know the beauty of tomato soup with milk until I was about 10, and my mom made hers that way instead of with water. Until then? It was all water. But I agree — it must be Campbells.

And, yum, I love the soggy crackers.

I LOVE Saltines. I especially love spreading butter on them, then crushing them up in chili. Or just eating them with butter. Or just eating them plain.

When we get Saltines, we eat the whole box within two days. We just can’t keep those things in the house. Have you ever tried them with a piece of chocolate on top? Yummy!

I love Tomato Soup, but really I honestly can’t eat it if I don’t have a spoon in one hand and half a grilled cheese in the other. I just can’t not even the finest of crackers could replace the grilled cheese. No siree.

PS. You are the wind beneath my wings. lol

Wow, that sounds great, I’m going to try it!!
