The evolving sound of the WIP

I have ripped apart my proposal for the third time now — this will be my last time. I was allowing myself some leeway with time while the agent stuff was all squared away, but now that I’ve got the agent/author agreement and am sending it out and everything’s official, I need to give her some work.

But the truth is, I couldn’t nail the hero (har har!) and my synopsis kept telling me the book was going to be far too long but I think I’ve got him and the plot down now. Part of the problem was also trying to figure out exactly how this will fit in the overall story arc — I think I’ve got that too, again without hitting 150K words (heh, so I say now). Anyway, that’s why the posts are few and far between right now, and short. I’m going to have this out over the weekend if it kills me.

Anyway, I can always tell how the feel for my WIP changes as the soundtrack in my car changes. Originally, it had much more of a country feel. It wasn’t working. It’s still not complete — I’ll be adding more and more as I go along (and adding in some of the songs that seem to be carrying throughout, like Bittersweet Symphony and The Man Who Sold the World). Maria Callas is going in there. The Rolling Stones.

Oh, btw, it’s times like this that I almost wish I wrote contemps. After all, it’s sort of hard to get a soundtrack that isn’t all minuets and waltzes, you know? :brickwall:
