I totally picked up this book just because of the cover
It’s not a romance, I don’t think, because the couple isn’t about to kiss — they’re dead and frozen in ice. So it’s just suspense, which works for me.
But I also loved the USA Today quote. I’m not sure if that makes it the awesomest book ever, or potentially the biggest trainwreck ever. But I was walking past the display at my local B&N (which had tons of copies of Burning Up, whee! and still tons of copies of Demon Blood, which isn’t as whee, but it’s okay. They sold one! And God knows I’ll end up buying the rest at some point. That B&N probably thinks I have a ton of fans, but really…I just have a lot of contests) and couldn’t resist.
Anyway. Also got: The Ghost Map: The Story of London’s Most Terrifying Epidemic–and How It Changed Science, Cities, and the Modern World (and created the Longest Title Ever) and The Science of Leonardo. Yay, research. Kind of. I liked the covers of these, too.

You can say it, btw. I HAVE CHEESY TASTE IN COVERS.
Do you really buy up copies of your books for contests? That is good! I just bought Burning Up on Kindle! So glad it was finally there.
I just got done writing on another post that I don’t buy books because of the covers, but if I find ones like the above, I may have to! LOL.
@Twimom227: Oh, I do buy my books for contests. I get a lot from my publisher, but after a while I run out. I can’t even tell you how many copies of Demon Angel I’ve bought in the past 3 years.
I won’t buy a book because of a cover, but I will definitely pick one up because of the cover. In this case, I was intrigued by the back cover copy. Frozen people, maybe vampires, a trip to Antartica, and suspense? Right up my alley right now (I’m kind of in a romance slump.)
Also, I’m a total sucker for the ripped-across-the-cover look. I don’t know why. But it gets me every time.
Okay, I’m with you on the “pick it up” and then reading the back blurb… You’ll have to report back on this one… Does sound interesting.
I too was in a reading slump. I went outside my norm, picking up some historical romance and love stories – something I thought I would NEVER read. Also did a YA. Now I’m back to PNR. We’ll see if the slump is over.
I’ve never bought a book solely for the cover. But it will make me pick it up and I have bought a second copy because I liked the new cover better. Or bought second copies of an entire series because they have been reissued with matching covers instead of the mishmash of the first runs.
LOL My last column was about buying books because of their covers!! So glad I’m not the only one. : )
okay, that cover is wicked cool and so is the title.
I wanna know if it’s any good. Will you tell us?
I first picked this up at Comic Con last year and can totally see it being made into a movie.
The blurb from USA Today is really eye catching. I think you will love this book and not want to stop reading.
Looks like my kind of book. Have put it on my wishlist at amazon.de (Germany)

I have the UK edition of Blood & Ice (haven’t read it yet), and I bought THAT based solely on the cover… though it’s totally different! Here:

And, out of curiosity, I just looked online and found an Australian edtion with yet another cover:

Not sure which is my favourite…

I am gutted. The UK cover isn’t nearly as cool. Boo and hiss.
But still, it sounds extremely awesome, so it has been added to my ever growing “to be read” list.
Ooo! I really like the Australian cover. I think its my fave of the covers.
I have, in the past, bought books soley for the cover art. /blush But mostly I will at least read the back cover.
Pretty much anything that has a cover by Michael Whelan (Dragon Riders of Pern) or Jody Lee (Valdemar) is irresistable and I will at least pick it up and flip through it. Jody Lee, especially, has this technique using linseed oil that creates such luminous artwork… they just suck the money right out of my wallet. I don’t know how it happens.
oh, I have read this one! I read it when it had the boring hardcover look. And it is surprisingly romantic. Look forward to seeing what you think of it as I don’t want to give any spoilers away.
Ooo Meljean Im a fan, but I cant get to your local B&N cos I live in Australia. LOVE your books. Just about melted from your awsomeness when I read your excerpts from the Iron Duke and Burning Up. Cant Wait! Thanks heaps!
