On Covers: Kate Pearce & Signet Eclipse = Smart
A recent release that caught my eye the first time I saw the cover was Kate Pearce‘s Tudor Vampire book, Kiss of the Rose. Not just because of the interesting time period, but because … well, look at the cover.
For one thing, it’s gorgeous. And that was part of the eye-catching part. But the smart part? It was that I immediately associated it with the Tudor period. Why? Well, because I’d seen these images in so many places:

I don’t even watch the show, and I made the Tudor association. Was it intentional? I don’t know how it was not (and if it wasn’t — whoa, synchronicity). But that’s awesomely smart marketing, to create a cover that resembles a popular image, and yet still manages to say very clearly: Tudor vampires and romance, everyone!
And, it’s gorgeous.

Slightly off-topic: Wow, I’m glad I never watched that series… considering what I’ve read about Elizabethan history and that I had to analyze a portrait of the queen and then looking at the clothes worn here…
But it IS clever marketing. I can see the resemblance and I’ve never watched the series, just seen your two examples here.
Oh, oh that’s yummy! Now I want to go buy the book!
Guilty as charged
The only thing I asked them to add was the hero’s beard.
When we were discussing covers I sent them both original portraits from the Tudor period and some more updated versions from ‘The Tudors’ including that one you have above on the right lol
When they came back with this-I was so very very happy
And the cover for book #2 Blood of the Rose is even better as it has Anne Boleyn on it (not allowed to share it yet unfortunately)
@Kate Pearce: They did an amazing job. And I think it’s a great idea (I know I’ve sent in movie posters/stills to my editor when we’re talking covers, too.)
I look forward to seeing the newest cover! (And reading the book, which I have on my towering stack of a TBR.)
looks and sounds interesting. I’ll put it on my wishlist
Yes, they did an amazing job. I was lucky to get an ARC of this book and I am looking forward to reading it. I love stories in the Tudor times.
