Steampunk Romance Week: Roundup & Reference
Steampunk Romance Week included a lot of posts, so I thought I’d put links to all of them for easy reference. If you’re visiting before midnight on October 24th, don’t forget that most of these posts have giveaways attached to them! If you are an author or a reader, and have any suggestions re: upcoming or available steampunk romances, we’d love to hear about them in the comments (and I’ll be happy to add them to this reference post)! Comments automatically close after a few weeks — if you can’t comment, please feel free to contact me.
AUTHOR INTERVIEWS
Ciar Cullen and STEAMSIDE CHRONICLES
Emily Fenwick, former NYPD, is now reluctant defender of 1890 New York. Unfortunately for Emily, who hates “the creepy stuff,” she ignored her inner voice, went to a carnival in Central Park, and entered a Victorian tent in hopes a psychic would have some encouraging news about her woefully boring love life. The guarantee she receives of meeting a tall, dark, and handsome stranger comes with a huge catch–he lives in an alternate dimension of the past. Excerpt. Buy.
Kristen Painter and MISS BRAMBLE AND THE LEVIATHAN
When Pandora Bramble steps aboard the Company’s premiere airship Daedalus it’s not for the exclusive VIP tour. It’s to secure proof that the Company stole the regulator valve her father designed—even if it means tearing the engine apart. Foiled by the unexpected appearance of a handsome crew member, she despairs of ever getting another chance—until he kisses her. Excerpt. Buy.
Nathalie Gray and FULL STEAM AHEAD (with a bit of MECHANICAL ROSE)
Dashing pirates, odious villains and mouthy heroines fight for survival in this momentous steampunk story. I pulled out all the stops for this one. For those unfamiliar with this awesome genre, steampunk is a delightful mix of Victorian aesthetics and oh-so-shiny fantastical machines. If you enjoy a good historical romance mixed with an action ride that never stops, or a romance that will sweep you into a fantasy world of petticoats and steam pistols, armored dirigibles and floating fortresses, then FULL STEAM AHEAD is for you. Strap on your brass goggles, my lovelies, we’re weighing the anchor and hoisting the mizzen. Ahoy! Excerpt. Buy.
Sheryl Nantus and WILD CARDS AND IRON HORSES
During the recent Civil War, a soldier risked his life to save Jonathan Handleston—and lost. With the help of an advanced metal brace on his crippled hand, Jon now travels from one poker tournament to the next, determined to earn enough money to repay the man’s debt.
Prosperity Ridge is supposed to be the last stop on his quest, but his brace is broken and he needs an engineer to repair the delicate mechanisms. The only one available is Samantha Weatherly, a beautiful anomaly in a world ruled by men. Excerpt. Buy.
Mari Fee and BLUEBEARD’S MACHINE
Determined to discover what new experiment is stealing her husband’s attentions, Annette Parker ventures into forbidden territory—his study—only to discover a secret he would kill to keep. She is his fifth attempt to clone the original Annette and, according to his journal, he’s planning a sixth…after he dissects her dead body.
Unsure of who or what she is, she assumes a new identity and flees to the Orkney Islands and her last hope. The man she once rejected. Excerpt. Buy.
Tilda Booth and STEALING UTOPIA
The year is 1897, the place, a Britain that could have been, but never was. H. George Wells is helping lead Britain into a new Golden Age, driven by technological advances and discoveries of the human brain. Then one night a beautiful woman abducts him at gunpoint, and she seems to despise everything he’s worked for. Despite his outrage, he can’t help but be intrigued by this adventuress and her passion for her cause. Excerpt. Buy.
Sahara Kelly and FLAVIA’S FLYING CORSET
When Flavia Winters enters the aerial carriage that will convey her across churning waters to the magnificent, isolated castle of Dr. Harland Gennaro, it’s not a polite social call. Nor does she hope to re-ignite their former passion. Oh, no. She’s convinced the renowned scientist stole something of value from her lab, and she plans to get it back by whatever means necessary. Excerpt. Buy.

Morgan Karpiel dropped by to tell us about her Fantasies of New Europa series. As of October, the first two books (The Inventor and The Admiral) are available for purchase, with the third, The Aviator, coming in December 2010. From her site:
You are cordially invited to join an expedition across an exotic landscape, to delve into passionate stories with lush settings, and to meet the explorers, inventors and soldiers shaping the future of New Europa.

Thank you, Meljean, for inviting authors to post! I’m still lusting after Rhys, btw. Hard not to. I’ve written two steampunk novellas and one just went up on Amazon this morning (the description hasn’t appeared yet, so I included it here):
Tristan Satorin, the once fearsome Admiral of his Majesty’s North Fleet, has accepted command of a private submersible venture on a mission to recover the treasures buried in the sunken Temple of the Oracle. When the floundering sub is swept into an underwater cave system, he quickly discovers that the island is far from deserted, and the beautiful woman sent to meet him has a mission of her own.
Jia has never seen an outsider, much less a man. Like all of the Oracle psychic ‘daughters’, she expects to venture into the modern world and choose a temporary mate for the rite of procreation. She does not expect to have that mate chosen for her by the Oracle herself, or for him to appear in the island’s watery caves as a broad-shouldered soldier of war, still reeling from the tragedies of his past. To save his life, she will betray her own people. To save his soul, she will kindle his fierce passion and match it with her own.
