Twice in One Day
Posts on women. Strong women. Real women. And misconceptions, too.
Dave Sim vs Gail Simone (Gail Simone is the current Wonder Woman writer, but that’s only part of the reason why I love her. Responses like this are the other part.)
A Pajiba review of Lipstick Jungle
Should I add Karen’s post, too? (NSFPWDWTTAPRN*)
ETA: The Robin Morgan essay. No matter who you are supporting, this is an amazing piece of writing, and worth reading (and talking about, online or off).
*Not Safe For People Who Don’t Want To Think About Politics Right Now

I have been trying to avoid politics, but my lovely and enlightened significant other sent me the link to the Robin Morgan piece, and that, as they say, was that.
(Dave Sim = caveman prototype?)
azteclady — I just got a chance to read that essay. Amazing.
For everyone — no matter who you support this election, it’s worth reading:

The women’s media center link is phenomenal. Thank you.
Thank you for the kind words…man, I have to read some of these books. They look hot!

Christine — what I love is that even if someone is voting for Obama or McCain or anyone else … the question of WHY this kind of rhetoric and hate-language is acceptable when it’s used is a fascinating one. Personally, I think that sexism is much, much more deeply entrenched than even racism is (and that’s bad enough, even today). Deeply embedded enough, even, that we don’t examine or feel as knee-jerk uncomfortable around misogynist speech as we do around racist speech.

And Gail Simone just commented on my blog. My *hearty-swirly eyes* are going mad.
I would love to see a Ryan Choi look-alike on my covers, personally — that’s more my idea of hot
But somehow, I have surrounded myself with media that seems to package itself in hotness … from the man-titty romance covers, to the spandex-clad men and women in comics.
My life is really good :joker:
Meljean, I think that you hit on what exactly irks me about this whole thing. If a person wants to vote for Obama or whomever, fine and dandy. But there is no need–and definitely shouldn’t be accepted–to use a person’s GENDER in order to discredit them as capable professionals. And that, sadly, is something I’ve seen around a lot these past few months. I hate to think how it’s gonna get if HRC gets the Democratic nomination.
(And thank you, thank you, thank you!! *happy dancing*)
I got chills.
My son asked me why some people don’t like Hillary and I said, “Because she’s strong. If she were a man they’d call her balsy and a go-getter. Someone who got the job done. But because she’s a woman, they call her a bitch and that’s not right. that’s a double standard.”
And no i still don’t know who I’m voting for, but my decision won’t be based on sex
Amie — when it comes to the issues, Obama and Clinton are pretty much neck and neck for me — and what I do disagree with is low on my “this matters to me” list. So it will end up coming down to who I think will actually get the job done.
Thanks! Really interesting. I wish i could spend my time on writing articles…just have no time for it.
