The “I’m still in a hole hearting my editor” FIRST BLOOD contest!

first blood coverI wasn’t the one who nominated this book :-D And I’m still in a hole trying to get another book to her, so why not give a few copies away? I have three (or four, if you count the one that I messed up on trying to sign, scribbled out my messed-up signature, and then wrote “effed up” on the front cover with a silver Sharpie) copies of FIRST BLOOD left in my collection — what do I need them for, right?

The rules are the same as the last contest (which is still ongoing, by the way.) Just leave a comment, and you’re entered. If you don’t mind getting an effed up copy, note that in your comment, and I’ll give away four copies instead of three. It ends whenever I come out of my hole.

I’m still not going to RWA National this year, though :-D

Another (short) First Blood giveaway!

first bloodNow, this one is open to everybody.Leave a comment on this post, and you’ll be entered to win one of seven copies of First Blood.  This one closes fast — you’ll have until tomorrow night (September 3 at midnight) to enter.Good luck!

The “I’ve never tried Meljean Brook’s Guardian series but I’d like to!” FIRST BLOOD giveaway*

*Or, for some, the “I tried her work once and it didn’t totally click for me, but I’m willing to try again!” FIRST BLOOD giveaway.

First Blood coverI’ve got twenty-five copies of First Blood sitting in a box, and they want a new home.  If you haven’t read any of the Guardian series but have been considering it (or if you have and are on the fence about the series, unsure if you want to go any further) then just leave a comment below by September 1. On September 2, I’ll randomly choose twenty-five names and send them a copy of First Blood.

“Thicker Than Blood” is the sixth story in the Guardian series, but — in my opinion — it stands alone really well. Characters from other books in the series do make an appearance, but they only exist to serve the purpose of Jack and Annie’s story. Click here to learn more about the anthology and to read an excerpt from my novella.

Like all of my contests, this is open to readers in or outside the United States.

Good luck!

Note to my regular readers: Never fear! I’ll be having another one soon that will include you :-)

FIRST BLOOD is out!

First Blood CoverYou never forget your first blood…

Susan Sizemore returns to the universe of her Laws of the Blood novels with a sizzling story of the relationship between a vampire enforcer and a werewolf.

Erin McCarthy’s Sasha Checkikov flees the bright lights and dangerous slayers of Vegas for New Orleans, where she is saved by a vampire haunted by his past—and hungry for passion.

Set in the Vampire Babylon world, Chris Marie Green’s story puts the bond between twin female vampires to the test when one of them falls for her prey.

And my contribution is:

“Thicker Than Blood”

Annie Gallagher is the only survivor of a demon attack that exterminated every other vampire in her city. But she can’t leave before she finds Cricket, a young human girl whose vampire guardians have been killed.  Annie needs help, but the rules of her kind demand that she operate in secrecy.

But when help comes, it’s from the one man she never expected…

The first chapter is after the cut:

Monday, Monday

So, I went looking for a dress for the Berkley party on Friday night. Didn’t find one. Hated them all, and when sleeves make my arms look like stuffed sausages, there be problems. Also, I hate my knees, and most of the dresses were knee-length or just above. I finally settled on trousers and a frilly shirt.

I also started twittering, which is kind of fun. I will probably forget to do it half the time, though.

I have, so far, found THE WILD ROAD, MY WICKED ENEMY, HEARTSICK, DELICIOUS, CRY WOLF, and THE MILLIONAIRE’S INEXPERIENCED LOVE-SLAVE. Still several more July 29 books to go.

I was also charged with picking out a new cologne for my husband. I got Davidoff’s “Adventure,” partially because it smelled good, and partially because — as soon as I walked into Macy’s — I saw this on a giant display:

Signings and First Blood

Just to clarify: I will be at RWA, but not at the literacy signing. I will be at the Berkley signing at 3pm on Friday — which is only, I believe, for conference attendees. I’ll update my main page with the conference room number of the signing as soon as I find it.

first blood coverFirst Blood releases in a little over two weeks, on August 5. That night, I’ll be at Borders off Cedar Hills in Beaverton … but not because I’m signing my book. Nope, I’m going to see Teresa Medeiros and Suzanne Enoch, and bother them. Teresa Medeiros I’m just going to fawn over, because I’ve been a fangirl for a way long time (Fairest of Them All started me on the path, and A Breath of Magic sealed the deal). She’s one of those authors that I don’t love love everything they write, but everything is consistently a good read for me, and some are just keepers forever and ever (especially because she was writing paranormal/historicals back when they were hard, hard, hard to find.) And with Enoch, I really, really want to know when Bram’s book is going to be out.

First Blood features Susan Sizemore, Erin McCarthy, and Chris Marie Green. After the cut is the second half of Chapter One of “Thicker Than Blood,” my novella. It follows the excerpt that’s up on the book info page. It is my favorite novella so far (although the current one (hellhounds!) might knock it out of first place … we’ll see.)
