Not exactly a “D’oh!”

July 20th, 2007

Entertainment WeeklyThanks to HelenKay and Sybil, I found out that Demon Moon is being reviewed in the upcoming issue of Entertainment Weekly. And it got an A-

Yeah, it rocks, really freaking hard.

But here’s the thing that gets me right in the gut — I haven’t seen too many romance reviews come out of EW (chick lit, but not romance, and a search for reviews in the romance genre pulls up a lot of reviews, but not many I’d consider part of the Romance romance genre (ya know, the HEA-part). Maybe I’m wrong about that, because I’m not a regular reader (I’m a cover-buyer, and now that Mulder and Scully are gone, pretty much only Batman and Superman get me to pick it up.) But still, not much romance, because I read HelenKay’s blog and she does often list the reviews, and they’re almost always chick lit. So, on top of it being really fantastic that the reviews might include romance now, somehow my book, which was released two months ago and written by a little nobody author, got reviewed in this issue alongside Johanna Lindsey and Sherrilyn Kenyon.

Which says to me that someone, somewhere down the line, said, “I really freaking believe in this book, you’ve got to read it,” and somehow it was included in EW’s review list. Maybe it was the reviewer who just happened to pick it up, maybe it was buzz online, or a bookseller, or the publicity department at Berkley, or my editor … I don’t know. It’s just completely freaking awesome. So, thank you to anyone and everyone who has ever said, “read this.”

Quite honestly, I don’t say it enough; it’s probably too bad that it takes something like this to remind me, but … yeah.

Does this call for a w00000000000000000000000000t?

Yes. Yes, it does.

Ah! Ah! I just realized who the guy on that cover reminds me of…

Chamber. Only, um, with a face and chest. And more like when Chris Bachalo was on Generation X. God, I forgot how much I loved Bachalo’s work…excuse me while I go drool over those pretty, pretty pencils.

God, I forgot how much I loved Generation X. Excuse me while I go sob.

Generation X

Just popping in to say, “Clothes are way hawt on a hero.”

Man, I can’t wait for this book. And I totally love this cover — something about it just screams comic-book-pose to me. And I want that coat!

And my e-mail is still way effed up.

Gah. Temporary e-mail change.

July 6th, 2007

I’m having massive huge problems with my e-mail lately. Not just because I’m slow answering them due to me being offline for two weeks, but stuff being delayed way too much when I do send them out — and as of this evening I can’t even log on.

So, temporarily, I’ll be at meljean.brook at gmail.com (and I’ll try to remember to check it, since I usually only use it for storing my backup copies of WIPs)

Pictures!

So, I had a signing at Powell’s in Beaverton and it was a lot of fun (for me — I can’t tell you if the same was true for everyone else, or if they were just smiling out of pity *g* And my husband told me I was boring, but he doesn’t count, because he’s not a romance reader) Emily and Marti, the Powell’s booksellers are truly awesome; everything was ready for me. I just had to come in and … whatever it was I did.

This is pretty much what happened: I got there, talked to Emily and Marti, watched my daughter roll around in her princess dress (her birthday was the next day, but once she saw that dress there was no getting her out of it) got in front of a podium, muttered a lot about myself and the Guardians series, about Batman and Wonder Woman, read an excerpt from Demon Moon, muttered a little more, answered a few questions, signed a few books, was certain I was only in there a half-an-hour at most, and walked out of the bookstore … two hours later.

Yes. It’s not ONLY my books that run long. Sigh.

And I have pictures, but because I haven’t gotten permission from anyone else yet, I’m only posting the back of Lilith Saintcrow’s head, and a small audience pic. (I think the turnout was okay? I’m no Christopher Moore, so frankly, I was just happy that one person in the audience wasn’t related to me.) More after the jump: (more…)
