The Iron Seas Series

THE IRON SEAS series combines nanotech and pirates with a gritty, gaslit Victorian atmosphere to create swashbuckling steampunk romance…with an emphasis on the steam. Not quite sure what steampunk is? Here is a quick overview. To learn about the Iron Seas alternate history, click here.

Where should you start?

  • I suggest starting with Here There Be Monsters, Iron Seas #0.5.

All of my novellas have been written to stand alone, so you could pick any one of them up and enjoy it. But Here There Be Monsters takes place before the other events in the series, so it’s just a natural place to start — and it’s longer than the short story in The Blushing Bounder, so you get a longer, better look at the world.

You can read Here There Be Monsters in print and in ebook. It’s available as a standalone digital novella, and also in print (and ebook) in the anthology BURNING UP, which also includes fantastic stories by Nalini Singh, Angela Knight, and Virginia Kantra.

  • All of the novels contain a plot and romance that stands alone, but I suggest starting with either The Iron Duke or Riveted. The series moves around the world, and these books serve as introductions to its part of the world, and don’t share any common characters. The Iron Duke is more of a fast-paced story with a classic alpha hero and a detective heroine; Riveted is more of a slow-building romance and adventure, with a sweeter hero and heroine.

If you enjoy linked books, I recommend The Iron Duke, followed by Heart of Steel. The events from the first novel spill into the second, and secondary characters we meet in The Iron Duke get their own stories in Heart of Steel

Riveted features characters new to the series.

After escaping her fourth kidnapping attempt in a year, Zenobia Fox has learned to vigilantly guard her identity. While her brother Archimedes is notorious for his exploits, Zenobia has had no adventures to call her own—besides the stories she writes.

But when she jumps at the chance to escape to the wilds of Australia and acquire research for her next story, Zenobia quickly discovers that the voyage will be far more adventurous than any fiction she could put to paper…
