Ah, okay. So I totally missed last week’s post, but I’ll try to make it up to you.
First, though, as a reminder for those already receiving the DorkPower! newsletter and a heads-up for those who don’t: I will be putting together the newsletter soon, so if you read a book in the past month that completely freaking knocked your socks off and want to spread the word in a promo-free newsletter — all of the recommendations come from readers — please remember to enter your recommendation by filling out the form at my site. A lot of you mentioned a recent book that knocked your socks off in my last giveaway, and it doesn’t have to be a new release. So if you’ve recently read a book that you loved, please let us know 🙂
You can sign up for the newsletter at that link, too.
Which brings me to the giveaway, and this excerpt booklet. This is a fun little sampler that’s similar in size to a trade-sized book and about 150 pages in length. It includes long excerpts from six 2011 releases, including Laura Wright’s ETERNAL KISS (out now!), Thea Harrison‘s DRAGON BOUND, Ellen Connor’s apocalyptic NIGHTFALL, Sylvia Day’s A TOUCH OF CRIMSON, my HEART OF STEEL, and Heather Killough-Walden’s AVENGER’S ANGEL.
This excerpt booklet will be given out at conferences and conventions this summer and fall, but I know a lot of you don’t attend those. I recently received a bunch to give away, though — and I thought it would be fun to pass them on to you.
One of the reasons I’m doing it today (and why this will be a quickie giveaway) is that Thea Harrison’s DRAGON BOUND comes out next week, and if there’s one book that I’ve heard a LOT about lately in terms of This will knock your freaking socks off! — DRAGON BOUND is it. I haven’t had a chance to read it yet, but since I had the excerpt booklet here, I thought I’d take a peek … and now I’m dying to get a chance to read the whole thing. So I thought, I really should get this out to readers who might want to check out a sample, too, and get the book ASAP.
And, of course, there is also an excerpt from my November steampunk release, HEART OF STEEL … which will differ quite a bit from what you’ll see in the final novel. So it’s almost like a deleted scene (but actually more like, Meljean grew a brain and realized that Yasmeen should probably shoot someone instead of just scaring some out-of-work actors.) But it’s still fun, and if I could write a book without worrying about things like pacing or moving a plot forward in a timely fashion, it would probably still be in there.
Plus, you get to see what happened to You-Know-Who (a.k.a. Zombie Fodder) a little early.
And this doesn’t even touch on the other awesome releases featured in this book, one which is already available (Laura Wright’s) and others that you can have a sneak peek and look forward to.
So, that’s a long way of saying: I’m giving away thirty (30) of these excerpt samplers, and will announce the winners by editing this post on Friday morning. I’ll then collect addresses over the weekend and mail these out Monday afternoon.
Entering is simple; you just have to comment before Thursday at midnight. PLEASE REMEMBER TO CHECK BACK TO SEE IF YOU’VE WON. I will attempt to send an e-mail to all of the winners, but sometimes my e-mails go straight into the spam folder.
International entries are okay.
For those of you who like to keep samplers like this as collector’s items, I will sign all of them.
You do NOT have to put your e-mail address in the comments! Just put it in the form where you enter your name, not the comment itself.
The small print: Comment before 4/28/2011 at 11:59:59PM PST to be entered to win a sampler. Thirty (30) entrants will be selected to win the book of their choice using random.org, and the winners’ names will be posted on this blog by 04/29/2011. Meljean will also contact the winners by e-mail and include a link for winners to enter their mailing addresses. Only one entry per ISP address, but multiple comments are allowed. International entries are welcome. No purchase necessary to enter. Odds of winning depend on number of entries received. Void where prohibited.
