Thanks to you and your votes, The Iron Duke made it through Round 2! Round 3 offers us another tough challenge: Nalini Singh’s Archangel’s Kiss, eek! But I’ve got just the sweet, sweet bribes to lure you over to the steampunk side … and delivered straight to your door!

HOW TO VOTE AND ENTER THE CONTEST
Voting for Region 3 (The Iron Duke‘s bracket) runs from very late Thursday night (Midnight, CST) to Friday at 12 Noon (CST).
If you visit the DABWAHA site twice a day (morning & afternoon) on March 24th & 25th, you’ll probably be able to vote in all of the sessions. I will send out Twitter and Facebook notifications when the voting starts for The Iron Duke and shortly before the round ends.

Where do I enter the contest to win the bribe?
After you vote for The Iron Duke at the DABWAHA site, return to this spot and scroll down about two inches. You’ll see “The Voting Bribe,” which tells you what is being offered — and below that is a form for you to enter your name and e-mail address, so that I can contact you if your entry is picked as the winner.
Resembling March Madness, DABWAHA is a tournament between sixty-four books, including trash-talking, offering shameless bribes in order to get votes, and all kinds of craziness. It’s the one online poll where authors can troll for votes without looking like a total tool, and where trash-talking is encouraged among all participants.

THE VOTING BRIBE
This is another tough round, not just because Nalini is one of my favorite people ever and I love her books, but because I just saw this on Twitter:

For those of you who weren’t here in Round 1, you might not know what happened to “Here There Be Monsters” when Maya Banks recruited her Facebook fans to help Jaci Burton take my novella down. For those of you who were here for Round 1, you’re probably still licking your wounds and trying to staunch the bleeding in your brackets. Then, Maya was supporting the underdog. This time … all I can say is, Nalini is no underdog. The Iron Duke is.
So what do underdogs do at a time like this? If they are filled with DorkPower, they offer goodies.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can I enter if I’m outside the United States?
Of course! I’ll ship the bribe anywhere. We might have to select another cupcake bakery to ship them from, but I’m flexible.
Do I need to be a tournament player/have a pick sheet to vote?
Not at all! Anyone can vote, even if you aren’t entered in the tournament. And if you have family, friends, a dog with his own e-mail address (and his own ISP) … have them come and vote, too! If they do, they can also enter my contest (and you can take the winnings from them privately.)
I heard you have a bribe notification service. Is that true?
Yes, it is. You can sign up here. Be aware, though, that I will only send out the notification shortly before each round of voting — I draw the line at spamming you with a newsletter each time the 12-hour voting period begins.

What the heck is Operation DorkPower?
Operation DorkPower is my way of trying to reward all of the readers who put their faith in The Iron Duke to make it all the way to the winning spot of the tournament. You can read more about the how and why here, but the most important part is:
And so if THE IRON DUKE wins the tournament, I will pass on the author’s prize, the iPad2, to someone who voted for it.
If it wins, I will take those bribe contest entries, compile them, and pick a winner from all of those who voted for The Iron Duke and then entered the bribe contests at my blog. That means if you vote for the book in every round, you will have one entry to win per round.
Is your bracket a total loss and there’s no way you’ll win the grand prize? You’ve still got a chance to win an iPad, even if you didn’t pick The Iron Duke to win it all — you just have tovote for it, and then enter the bribe contest at my blog.
Does your momma need an iPad? Call her up and tell her to vote, too — and then send her over to my blog. I don’t care if she hasn’t read The Iron Duke or if she doesn’t like mantitty; I’ve got readers who need her to vote for it.
Do you have a different computer and internet connection at work and at home? Do you have a cell phone that can browse the internet? Then you can vote more than once (and this is totally kosher. In any other contest, it would make us assholes, but this is DABWAHA.)

No, not really. DorkPower is all about having fun while kicking some ass. I’m not interested at all in tearing down any other authors or their books, because they are all awesome — I’m not interested in beating other books; it’s just about getting The Iron Duke to the next round on the strength of its AWESOME RED KRAKEN POWER.
I’ll do my best to make it worth your while, and maybe to laugh now and then, too, or to receive little extras for voting. And so … Operation DorkPower begins.

The Operation DorkPower Bribe
This bribe is designed to offer something to everyone — whether you want to try my steampunk series, or just want up-and-close personal time with a chance to pick my brain about anything you like, whether you just want $$ so that you can go buy your own books, or a one-of-a-kind item that you just can’t get very many other places. One person will win the prize of their choice from the following options:
The first option in the DorkPower bribe is a copy of both BURNING UP and THE IRON DUKE, the two stories in my steampunk romance series, The Iron Seas. You can read more about these here.
The second option is a $20 gift card to your favorite online bookstore (unless it’s a store that doesn’t allow me to purchase gift cards online. If that happens, we’ll work it out.)
The third option is a set of four prints featuring my Iron Seas characters Mina, Rhys, Archimedes, and Yasmeen. These will be derived from the artwork that I’ve commissioned from silvertales (see them in progress here) for my romance trading cards, and should be finished in May or June. The prints will be approximately 8×10, printed in full color, and mailed to you as soon as they are available.
The fourth option is lunch/dinner with me (my treat!) at either the RT Booklovers Convention in Los Angeles, RWA Nationals in New York, or Authors After Dark in Philadelphia. Bring a friend, if you like. We’ll have to work around any previously arranged panels or signings that I’m required to attend, but that shouldn’t be too difficult.
The fifth option is…MINI-CUPCAKES! Delivered straight to your door, this is the cuter, sweeter version of the voting bribe, and my way to keep saying thank you.

For the Voting Bribe: Submit your name and e-mail address on the appropriate form during the active voting period (March 25, 2011, 00:00AM CST to 11:59AM CST) and within an hour after the poll has been closed. One entrant will be selected to win using random.org, and the winner’s name will be posted on this blog by 03/31/2011. Meljean will also contact the winner by e-mail; the winner needs to reply with their mailing addresses so that Meljean can send the books and cupcakes to them. Only one entry per ISP address. International entries are welcome. No purchase necessary to enter. Odds of winning depend on number of entries received. Void where prohibited.
