No Rest for the Wicked
Yay! I finally got it! (Actually, my sister did, but it’s in my house and that’s what counts.)
So, my sister read it first (while I was toiling away in the kitchen *sob*) and when she was finished she brought it out to the living room and tossed it onto the sofa, made a huffing noise and shook her head.
And I was like, “What? Was it bad?”
And she was like, “No. It was good. I’m just so tired of this ‘fated’ crap.”
And I was like, “Oh, shit. I swear I will never write mates.” And then she ate the spaghetti I made, and was happy.
So I was expecting something kind of bad (because Megan isn’t very discriminating in her reading, and when something upsets her, I usually think it is REALLY bad) or maybe even a huge deus ex machina that keeps them together at the end. But, really, Cole handles it well. Sure, the mate stuff is the reason they’re all hot for each other, but they don’t pretend to be in love or anything, and don’t mistake lust for more tender feelings.
And they were good characters: Kaderin is awesomely vicious, and Sebastian was so sweet and a little unsure of himself! Aw. I love that. Just all around fun.
And I liked the first, but I like this one more. Less pop culture references, which fit Kaderin’s age, I think — and she was more confident from the beginning than Emma ever was. There weren’t so many Valkyries running around, and though I find their histories interesting, it was more satisfying to focus just on these characters. And I’m totally waiting for Furie to come back.
Update: Oh no! According to Cole’s site, the next one isn’t until November 2007! A year! *sob*
