Oh, and on the DM cover.
The one big huge request I had on the cover was totally honored. I sent about seven pages of pictures and character and story notes for the art department, and suggestions, and they included a lot of it, but the most important one was this (after a long paragraph about how Colin’s clothes are ridiculously stylish):
…And if he’s naked, I only ask that his hair is not a) in a mullet, because one of the bad guys in the book is known as Mullet Boy…
And, thank goodness…no mullet.
I also think that as far as branding goes, if these books do okay sales-wise, I imagine this will probably be my “look”. The “demon” in the title, too. I don’t know how many titles I can come up with that start with “demon” (actually, I made a list, and it delved into things like “demon dick” and “demon wiener” so you can guess how helpful that list was.) The only one I’m sure of will be Michael’s book, but that’s some time from now. But the next proposed title will be DEMON NIGHT, which I like well enough (though if my publisher doesn’t, they’ll probably suggest another). It’s a bit generic, perhaps, but by the third book in the series I hope that the branding overwhelms the generic-ness of it.
And it’s all good, because I’m really bad at titles. And I (secret shame) love a good clinch.
