Pictures!
So, I had a signing at Powell’s in Beaverton and it was a lot of fun (for me — I can’t tell you if the same was true for everyone else, or if they were just smiling out of pity *g* And my husband told me I was boring, but he doesn’t count, because he’s not a romance reader) Emily and Marti, the Powell’s booksellers are truly awesome; everything was ready for me. I just had to come in and … whatever it was I did.
This is pretty much what happened: I got there, talked to Emily and Marti, watched my daughter roll around in her princess dress (her birthday was the next day, but once she saw that dress there was no getting her out of it) got in front of a podium, muttered a lot about myself and the Guardians series, about Batman and Wonder Woman, read an excerpt from Demon Moon, muttered a little more, answered a few questions, signed a few books, was certain I was only in there a half-an-hour at most, and walked out of the bookstore … two hours later.
Yes. It’s not ONLY my books that run long. Sigh.
And I have pictures, but because I haven’t gotten permission from anyone else yet, I’m only posting the back of Lilith Saintcrow’s head, and a small audience pic. (I think the turnout was okay? I’m no Christopher Moore, so frankly, I was just happy that one person in the audience wasn’t related to me.) More after the jump:
So this is the poster that I might have — but did not — wrap around my naked body and run around in to advertise the event. I blew it up to movie-poster size at Kinko’s … and then I was like a rock star when Marti asked me to sign them after the event. (The other went to my sister Echo, who took the pictures, but I didn’t sign hers.) You can click to blow it up if you really want, but I assume that you’re here for pictures of me :joker:
Alright, here’s me talking at the podium. I was totally awesome, because they had one of those clip-on microphones on my lapel, and I had to put the radio part of it in my back pocket. Luckily, even though my last deadline was hell on my ass and thighs (too much take out and fast food) my pants weren’t quite too tight to fit it in there.
I have no idea what I’m saying in this pic, but it probably wasn’t anything very interesting (although the placement of my fingers indicates to me that I was trying to explain something, or making a point (and very likely not doing either very well.)) I think I must have been looking at Candy from Smart Bitches, too, because the angle of my head is right.
Then here’s me right after the speaking part, when the Princess broke away from her captors and tried to climb the Tower of Mommy Power. She was actually very good during the entire event … mostly because Auntie Echo was there to buy her lots of things and tell her how pretty she looked in her princess dress.
This is a shot of everyone, except it doesn’t include the old guy who stopped at the back and just watched for a little while. A huge thanks to all who attended, and a special shout-out to fiveandfour, who I’ve seen comment on other blogs but had no idea she liked my books, Woot! and Billie from Powell’s at the airport, and Gloria, who pimped my books to Michelle, and all of the ladies (and guy) in the front row (and fiveandfour again) because we went out for tots at McMenimans later, and it rocked (and at one point I almost shot RC cola out of my nose, imagining Colin taking a new kind of vampire tea. Maybe more on that later.)
Then here’s me signing (I didn’t just mumble! I signed! … although, okay, some of the things I wrote were totally ‘tarded.) This is my double-Lilith pic, because that’s the back of Lilith Saintcrow’s head (as advertised above) and me signing Demon Angel.
Marvel at the straightness of my hair part. That is courtesy of Rebecca, at the Aveda salon nearest me.
Then, just because I have to — the cuteness! Aw!
And it’s a happy 4th birthday to her. And a super thanks to all of the ladies (and guy) in the front row (and fiveandfour) for not hating on us when she started running around the table at McMenimans. Oh, and for telling her how pretty her rainbow bracelets were.
Other update stuff:
I’m kind of on deadline again for a novella due Sept 1st, so there probably won’t be too much posting yet, and I’m still way behind on my e-mails and a couple of other things. I should be caught up before too much longer, though (I hope).
