Romance Trading Cards
So, a fun little thing has popped up on Twitter: romance trading cards. I know quite a few authors who have been doing these for a while, but as far as I know,* there’s never really been a concentrated effort for many authors to get together and create a bunch of these for conventions and conferences.
Here’s one of mine (and thank goodness I do all of my own promo work, because everything was already there in Photoshop files for me to use during a writing break last night. I remember the first time I tried to create something kind-of like this, with no templates or anything as a guide. Gah. It was NOT pretty.)
As a fan of the genre, I could totally see getting into collecting something like this (probably because I have EXTENSIVE experience collecting other types of trading cards, especially for comic book characters.) My sister and I did questionable things and spent questionable amounts of money just trying to get Julie Bell & Boris Vallejo’s chase cards for an X-Men Fleer set.
For romance/F/SF: I’d love to see a card for Anne Bishop’s Lucivar. And in the info section, it could just contain the exchange between him and the evil-illusion boy at the haunted house from Tangled Webs, because it tells you everything you need to know about him:
“The worst is still to come,” the boy said.
“No,” Lucivar replied, walking right through the illusion. “I’m here now.”
Honestly, if I heard that a Lucivar card was going to show up at some convention, I’d probably pay someone to get one for me … or fly there myself.
So what would your “I’ll attend a conference just to get his/her card!” character be?

*I haven’t attended that many romance conferences/conventions, so this might have been done before and I just didn’t hear about it. That’s very, VERY possible.
