Virgin Heroes
Romance Novel TV is having a Virgin Heroes Week, with several posts already featuring Linnea Sinclair, Ward, Campbell, and others. I have a soft spot for virgin heroes, of course — especially the eight-hundred-year-old ones and the demons who deflower them.Â
One of the interesting questions that came up was if the male de-virgining was best from the hero or heroine’s POV. I have to vote for the hero 90% of the time (in Demon Angel, there was simply no other way that scene might have worked.)
The first male virgin I remember? It was a Harlequin Presents by Amanda Carpenter: WAKING UP (this is the M&B cover; the HP cover has the same painting, but they were in that HP circle w/white cover). It also made Missy bawl like crazy (not the deflowering — which, btw, was mutual — but the ending.) And it remains one of the more unusual HPs I’ve read, in that the hero is not at all a magnate, tycoon, or other (he’s the Boy Next Door). It was just a really sweet story, and Carpenter was, for a while, one of my favorite HP authors.
