Whee!
RIVETED’S typeset pages are back to my publisher, which means the next time I see them they’ll be part of a book. That also means I’ll probably put up an excerpt soon — of course, this is always a crazy, awful decision-time for me, because I never know whether to just post the first chapter or what. My books always have a lot of worldbuilding and kind of start slow, so I always feel like I should post something from later in the book. But at the same time, I don’t want to ruin a later scene for anyone, even if it does show more of David and Annika together. Then I think: no one knows them, anyway, so it’s not like there any expectation/tension going into that scene, so it would just be like throwing a reader in and screaming “DON’T YOU LOVE THEM YET AND THINK THEY ARE SO HOT?”
Gah. You wouldn’t think this would be so difficult, would you? That’s probably because you aren’t an over-thinking, insecure dork like me.
So it’ll probably be the first chapter. Or something.
In other news, my Twitter stream today told me that I am the only person in the world who is apparently underwhelmed by Nutella. I wanted to like it SO MUCH — but the first time I tried it, I didn’t love it. I didn’t think it was bad or anything, but if I had to choose between it and peanut butter, or it and jam, or it and just plain butter on toast, I’d probably go for those three first.
I can’t even blame it on hating hazelnuts as a child (only we called them filberts out here in Oregon — and my dad used to buy giant burlap sacks full of them from local orchards, and they’d dry out over our fireplace, and we’d crack a bunch of nuts all winter.) I kind of like hazelnuts now (though if I had to choose between them and cashews, or them and almonds, or them and macadamia nuts, I’d probably go for those three, too.)
…so maybe THAT is why I don’t love Nutella. It never had a chance, thanks to the hazelnuts, and you can blame it on my filbert-loving Dad.
(Okay, mostly — I just love typing “filbert.” It’s the best word ever. If Nutella was made of filberts instead of hazelnuts, I’m guessing that many other people wouldn’t like it, but I probably would like it better than I do.)
FILBERTS. <-- haha, I love it.
